Billie Eilish is Collaborating with Nike to Produce Neon Green Vegan Air Jordan 1 KO Sneakers

Prepare yourselves: Billie Eilish x Air Jordan 1 KO vegan sneakers are coming!

It’s no secret that Billie Eilish is a self-proclaimed sneakerhead and has been a longtime fan of Air Jordan by Nike. So not only is this a dream collaboration for her but this is also a dream collaboration for all her fans who are environmentalists or animal activists!

Inside the Billie Eilish x Air Jordan Collaboration

Back in June of this year, PVA Sneakers released some photos on Instagram, giving a small sneak peek into this collaboration. We now know that these “Ghost Green” Air Jordans are going to be leather-free and feature a monochrome neon green color (Billie’s favorite color) that’s inspired by Don C Legacy 312 and the striking “Gatorade” design.

As she said in this video with Complex, the reason she loves the “Gatorade” is that “a lot of shoes don’t commit to being what they are. But to commit to this… There are going to be people who don’t like this at all, but it’s out there.” We don’t have official confirmation from Billie or Nike that these sneakers are going to be vegan, but it’s safe to say this is most likely going to be the case because of Billie’s consistent commitment to veganism and Nike’s recent sustainability measures.

In fact, Nike’s more recent varieties of Air Jordans, like the Jordan Flight Flex, use 100% synthetic, plant-based, sustainable material. And Billie’s mom, Maggie Baird, said her daughter’s Air Jordan collaboration will be vegan, so I’m counting that as confirmation. Maybe unofficial, but it certainly raises hope that these are indeed environment and animal-friendly.

Though neon is not my preferred color palette, I appreciate how bold she went with the color. And I would consider wearing them just because of the layered meaning behind it — they are a daring fashion statement plus made with the environment and animal wellbeing in mind.

Billie’s Air Jordans also features her name and her Blohsh stick figure logo, with, of course, the iconic Jumpman insignia. And if that all wasn’t enough, one of my favorite parts about this collaboration is each pair of sneakers comes with a branded Billie Eilish x Air Jordan notebook! (I’m a notebook hoarder, ethical vegan, and someone who tries to make eco-conscious decisions so this collaboration has got me super excited.)

Billie Eilish and her commitment to sustainability and animal welfare

In September of this year, Billie talked about climate change with PhD, marine biologist, and CEO of Ocean Collectiv, Ayanna Elizabeth Johnson in a feature set up by Nike. In their conversation, Billie brought up a super great point. She said, “you don’t have to be called an activist to talk about what’s right.” While labels can be helpful out of respect for certain movements and to understand various groups that exist, we need to reconnect with the idea that we all have consciousness and a desire to do what’s right.

“Raise your voice, live and vote your environmental values, and change the status quo for climate justice, sustainable fashion, and climate policy,” Johnson said, going off of Billie’s point. They continued to discuss climate change, how to think globally and act locally, and they even offered suggestions for how people can help by combining their unique skills with your passion to work towards change.

Billie Eilish isn’t messing around when it comes to sustainability and animal activism. She co-chaired the 2021 Met Gala and arrived in a gorgeous blush pink gown made by Oscar de la Renta. However, she only wore the gown because she made an ultimatum with the world-renowned designer. The ultimatum was for the brand to end all its fur sales and then she would agree to wear the gown. And it worked! They banned all fur sales in August, and Billie showed up in the jaw-dropping gown. I need to stop us here for a moment so we can appreciate how much influence Billie has. What a power move to make.

When can we expect Billie Eilish’s Air Jordans to drop?

According to zSneakerHeadz, the go-to source for Nike and Jordan release information, Billie Eilish x Air Jordan 1 KO vegan sneakers will launch September 30th.

What do you think about this collaboration? Are you going to purchase one of the neon green, plant-based shoes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
