Times Square, which is located in the center of busy New York City, entices travelers with a variety of culinary options. It creates a welcoming sanctuary for those looking for delightful treats and gastronomic excursions at such affordable prices.
Whether you’re a connoisseur of international cuisine or an ardent lover of local flavors like me, Times Square promises an unforgettable food trip filled with tantalizing aromas, mouthwatering dishes, and the warm embrace of vibrant food culture. The six following restaurants are some of my favorites that you may want to stop by for an epicurean expedition in the big plaza.
The Halal Guys
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Halal Guys, and I must say it was an experience that one must try in New York. I had heard great things about this legendary food cart turned restaurant, and they were proven right just after I had my first spoonful of beef gyro platter. Its famous in-house white and hot sauce further elevates the Middle Eastern dish, and because I couldn’t get enough of its fresh ingredients, I ordered a chicken sandwich for takeout for a different flavor profile. Next time, I’ll give falafel varieties a try.
Sushi By Bou
Sushi By Bou specializes in omakase, a chef’s choice tasting menu, which thrilled me as I was eager to surrender my palate to their culinary expertise. The fish was impeccably fresh, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that spoke volumes about the quality of ingredients used. Each subsequent piece that followed was a work of art, meticulously crafted with precision and care.
Katsu Hama
The menu at Katsu Hama offered a wide variety of katsu options, ranging from traditional pork to chicken, seafood, and even vegetarian options. I decided to go for the classic pork katsu set. When the dish arrived at my table, I was blown away by the presentation. The katsu was golden brown and perfectly crispy on the outside, while the pork inside remained juicy and tender. The portion size was generous, accompanied by a bowl of steaming white rice, a tangy cabbage salad, and a flavorful miso soup.
Kochi
Kochi in NYC is an absolute culinary gem that promises an extraordinary dining experience. It is a 1-star Michelin restaurant but each bite was a burst of flavors, with the ingredients harmonizing perfectly. Kochi’s menu showcases a fusion of traditional Japanese and Korean cuisine, expertly crafted to create unique and tantalizing flavors. As a lover of both cuisines, I was thrilled to see the variety of options available. The menu features a delightful array of sushi rolls, sashimi, Korean barbecue, and hot stone bibimbap, among many other mouthwatering dishes.
Los Tacos No. 1
Los Tacos No. 1’s menu is refreshingly simple, focusing on what they do best: tacos. While some may find the lack of variety limiting, I found it to be a testament to their commitment to excellence. They have perfected the art of the taco, and it’s evident in every bite.
Boqueria
I may not have yet had the opportunity to take a second visit to the exquisite offerings at Boqueria, but based on my initial experience, I knew right there and then that Bouqeria took great pride in sourcing the finest, freshest ingredients to craft their dishes. The menu items ranged from classic favorites with a contemporary twist to tantalizing creations that were entirely new to my palate.
