Favorite Summer Meals and the NYC Restaurants You Can Find Them

Summertime – the sun’s out and automatically the shades are on and sunscreen is applied to the body. Seems like the complete to-do package to enjoy the season but you can top it all off with complementary meals that keep you cool and fresh amidst the rising mercury level every day. Find out here at NeedThat which are the favorite summer meals and New York City restaurants that best serve them. Spoiler alert: you won’t find aerated soft drinks or frozen desserts.

The temperature is high and the vibe is warm. Summer is when people drink more water and eat fresh and light summer meals to combat perspiration and dehydration. Countries with summer all year round have the best diet that matches the season. Based on their cuisines, such as those in India, Mexico, Thailand, and Hawaii, examples of meals are refreshing, healthy and nutritious, yet brimming with multiple flavors and colors.

When in Bangkok for seafood salad

Fruits and veggies are the number one source of high water content and nutrient value. Hence, it’s no secret why recipe websites have a collection of their best summer salad recipes. Since it’s important to consume protein every day, except if you have a medical condition to not eat otherwise, seafood is the perfect choice because they are fresh and light that complements green leafy veggies.

When in Bangkok in Queens hits right in the core between seafood, veggies, and spices. After all, it’s a Thai cuisine restaurant with an objective to transport its customers to Bangkok through skillful cooking and extraordinary dining experience using a tropical bungalow décor. All of its salads are in seafood and spicy flavors that really bring out Thai cuisine’s depth of taste. While all stand out, I recommend Yum Pu Ma because it comes with marinated raw blue crabs. Definitely a treat!

As a plus, When in Bangkok features Happy Hour on weekdays for oysters (that is only for $2!) signature cocktails, beer and sake, and wine and soju.

Boucherie for tomato tart

Tomato’s juiciness and sweet-sour taste are some of the reasons why it’s often used in sauces or pastes. But for people who want desserts that are healthy all the same, tomato tart is a great treat to bring to your friends/family-get together or on picnic dates. It’s creamy and fresh from additional mozzarella, basil, and oregano on top of a flaky, buttery pie crust.

A traditional French restaurant named Boucherie has four locations in NYC: West Village, Union Square, and Midtown. Whichever you go into, prepare yourself for French classics and timeless bistro favorites like dry-aged steaks, all of which come at hefty prices. In case there’s a special celebration coming and you’re feeling a little spendy this summer, I suggest pairing tomato tart with Australian grass-fed ribeye steak. It’s like an outdoor BBQ getaway but boujee style.

de Mole for steak/seafood fajitas

Here’s the summer meal that checks all of the boxes: fresh, healthy, vibrant, and generally affordable. If the ribeye steak and tomato tart combo doesn’t fit your budget, flank steak fajitas are the easiest option, especially when Mexican food craving hits. Those perfectly marinated, melt-in-your-mouth tender beef strips or fresh seafood instantly become juicier when eaten together with grilled peppers and tomatoes.

Good thing the Big Apple has tens of thousands of Mexican restaurants, huh? You can find fajitas anywhere which, in parallel, raises the competition for the best option. But for this specific meal, I’d have to go with de Mole, which is located in the heart of Williamsburg that locals often refer to as the neighborhood’s hidden gem restaurant. Apart from fajitas, other memorable treats you’ll enjoy are the lively ambiance and service and specialty in Mole Poblano. The latter is a Mexican household staple that is a thick and savory chile and chocolate sauce.

There are so, so many delicious summer meals and NYC restaurants that serve them best, but my suggestions have to come to a halt at some point. Visit these places and come back again at NeedThat to stay ahead of what’s hot and not in the consumer industry. We provide product reviews, comparisons, guides, and small business discoveries.
